900,000 books borrowed last year

According to statistics published by the National Statistics Office, last year more than 900,000 books were borrowed from libraries around Malta and Gozo. This means that there was an increase of 7.9% since the previous year.

The most books borrowed were registered from the South and the North of Malta.

The public libraries of Żejtun, Qrendi, Marsaxlokk Gudja and Imqabba registered an increase of 20% while the libraries in Żurrieq and Birżebbuġa reported the least percentage of books borrowed.

In the North villages of Għargħur and Mosta, more than 30% were registered while the only locality who reported a decrease in the percentage was Imġarr, with 2.9%.

In Gozo and Comino, the decrease registered was primarily in Qala, Nadur and Żebbuġ with a decrease of 32.4%, 26.2% u 19.1% respectively.
