86-year-old COVID-19 patient dies in hospital

The Ministry for health announced that an 86-year-old woman has died of COVID-19. She is the 16th coronavirus victim registered in Malta.

According to the statement issued by the Ministry, the woman contracted the virus on the 30th of August and she was admitted to Mater Dei Hospital.

On the 2nd of September, she was transferred to St Thomas Hospital and again admitted to Mater Dei on the 5th of September.

The Ministry for Health said that the 86-year-old died at the Infectious Diseases Unit, IDU and that the woman had other underlying medical conditions.

Malta registered its highest single-day increase on Sunday after the health authorities reported 78 new cases.

The Medical Association of Malta has issued new directives affecting doctors working in primary health care ordering them to refrain from carrying out work related to coronavirus in privately owned residential care homes until a public health emergency is declared.
