An 80-year-old man died while being positive with Covid-19.

The senior was tested positive for Covid-19 on September 4. He was admitted to Mater Dei Hospital yesterday, September 9, where he passed away earlier today. He had further health conditions.

The Ministry of Health, while offering condolences to the relatives of the elderly, calls on the people to continue to follow the appeals of the Department of Health.

This is the 15th coronavirus death in Malta. Yesterday, the ECDC reported that Malta had 15 coronavirus deaths, but the Maltese health authorities said that this was a mistake.

A government spokesperson confirmed that a Sudanese man who died due to injuries he sustained while attempting to flee from Ħal Far detention centre had tested positive for coronavirus after his death. Since he died due to injuries sustained in the incident, his death was not added to the coroanvirus death toll.
