A group of 8 Roman teenagers have tested positive for Covid-19 after returning home from a Malta holiday, Italian media is reporting.

The 8 youths, aged between 17 and 19, had spent a week’s holiday in Malta before returning to Rome on 7 August.

Health authorities in Rome have carried out contact tracing, and the youths’ family and other close contacts have been isolated. One of the youths had returned to Rome early to go on another holiday with his family in Trento; he is now quarantined in his hotel room.

On Friday, five young Spaniards from Salamanca had tested positive for Covid-19 on their return from a Malta holiday, while a 27-year-old man tested positive for Covid-19 in the central Italian region of Umbria in similar circumstances.
