6 new Covid-19 cases reported, while 2 recover

The number of active cases of Covid-19 in Malta increased yet again today, with six new cases being reported to the health authorities in 24 hours.

Two patients have fully recovered, bringing the total number of active cases up to 43.

The health authorities reported that one of the new cases is linked to an ongoing cluster, which has been responsible for 19 cases so far. The other 5 are “sporadic” cases, of which 4 are asymptomatic.

 911 swab tests were carried out in the previous 24 hours, bringing the total number of swabs carried out in Malta to 84,964.

Malta has recorded a total of 662 total cases of Covid-19 since the pandemic reached the country in March. The pandemic has claimed nine lives in Malta, while 610 patients have made full recoveries.

In a statement issued yesterday, the Malta College of Pathologists expressed concern about the rapid lifting of Covid-19 restrictions followed in Malta, arguing that a more gradual approach was more advisable.
