Six Civil Protection Department employees, stationed in Gozo have tested positive to coronavirus and nine more are under quarantine. This newsroom is informed that one of the employees was informed by the health authorities that there was a mistake in his test result as he was in fact positive to coronavirus but was initially informed that his tests came back negative.
The number of Civil Protection employees who have contracted the virus has been confirmed to Newsbook.com.mt by a spokesperson to the Ministry for Home Affairs. It was explained that every person who tested positive to the virus was asked not to report to work. The Ministry also confirmed that since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the CPD employees in Gozo started working in two different stations.
Sources told Newsbook.com.mt that the virus spread amongst the CPD employees in Gozo because the health authorities had informed one of the employees that his swab test came back negative and as a result, he returned back at work when he was subsequently informed that there was a mistake and that he had in fact contracted the virus.
CPD employees who contacted this newsroom said that they are disappointed with the lack of contact tracing related to this case.
