Around 50,000 tests on construction material were carried out by the Laboratory Services Directorate within the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority last year, almost twice as many as in the previous year.
The figure was mentioned by Tourism Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli in a visit to the MCCAA’s labs in Mosta. The minister announced that the service was set to be improved further through the acquisition of new equipment in the near future.
The MCCAA labs carry out 41 different tests on construction material, and its tests have included ascertaining the quality of material used in roadworks and social housing projects.
MCCAA chairperson Helga Pizzuto highlighted that the laboratory also tested medical gases and textiles,aalong with other materials. Over 10,000 tests on the medical gases used in Maltese hospitals were carried out last year.
