Deputy Prime Minister and Health Chris Fearne confirmed that the sixth person reported as a victim of coronavirus had in fact died of complications related to the intestines

Minister Fearne gave this information following a parliamentary question by MP Godfrey Farrugia who asked Minister Fearne to give an account on the coronavirus cases reported in Malta and Gozo.

Fearne said that in the sixth case, coronavirus was not a contributing factor which led to the death of the patient.

Newsbook.com.mt contacted MP Godfrey Farrugia who explained that in the case of the patient reported as the 6th coronavirus victim, he was also suffering from other health-related problems. Although the patient contracted the virus, he did not suffer from Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome.

Godfrey Farrugia said that if a person dies due to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome then the main cause of the death would be coronavirus.

MP Godfrey Farrugia continued to explain to Newsbook.com.mt that when a person dies a death certificate is issued which would include the primary cause of death and if there were any contributing factors leading to death. He then explained how a person can die of a heart attack but the contributory factor could be that the patient suffered from diabetes.
