49 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported by the health authorities on Friday, representing a sharp increase from the already-high figures reported in recent days.
With five patients making a recovery, the total number of active cases is now 311.
As Superintendent of Public Health Charmaine Gauci will soon be delivering a briefing, the latest bulletin did not elaborate on the origin of the cases.
1,717 swab tests were carried out over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of tests carried out in Malta up to 138,430.
So far, Malta has reported 995 cases of Covid-19, with 675 patients making a recovery. However, the pandemic has also claimed 9 lives.
