A boat carrying people fleeing the war from Libya in Malta’s SAR zone is in distress, according to the migrant hotline Alarm Phone.

Both the Italian and the Maltese authorities have been informed at 5.01pm on Sunday, the organisation tweeted.

The boat is carrying about 40 people.

Alarm Phone has urged the authorities to take action without delaying the rescue.

When contacted by Newsbook.com.mt, the Armed Forces of Malta said that they had no information about the case.

The boat is still in distress at sea, according to Alarm Phone. In a tweet, it explained that Malta’s authorities said that they are investigating the case. The boat is closer to Lampedusa than to Malta.
