A total of 40 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed overnight on Thursday, after 3,030 swab tests were carried out overnight.
The total number of active cases has now reached 699, with 18 patients having made a recovery overnight.
The cases are still being investigated, the health authorities have reported in an infographic.
On Wednesday, the health authorities have reported 47 new cases, adding that five cases were family members of previously known cases, six were direct contacts of known cases, nine cases were work colleagues of positive cases, three cases belong to the Paceville cluster and two cases were imported. Therefore 22 of the 47 cases reported on Wednesday remain unaccounted for.
The total number of swab tests carried out since the start of the pandemic is now 166,348.
The 40 new cases bring the total number of coronavirus cases reported in Malta up to 1,510, with a total of 802 patients making a recovery. The pandemic has claimed 9 lives.
The figures do not include the asylum seekers who have reached Malta by boat and have subsequently tested positive.
