40 patients who have tested positive for coronavirus are receiving treatment in various hospitals, Newsbook.com.mt has learnt.

This newsroom can confirm that a person who is in critical condition is now receiving intensive care, after a CT scan showed that the person was carrying the virus. The person is not part of the government’s official tally since they tested negative to the nasopharyngeal swab. A source has told this newsroom that health care professionals are treating the case as a positive coronavirus case.

Apart from the person who is receiving intensive care, there are seven patients at the Infectious Diseases Unit at Mater Dei Hospital, thirteen patients at Sir Paul Boffa Hospital, twelve at St Thomas Hospital and seven at Mount Carmel Hospital.

Three out of the seven patients at Mount Carmel Hospital were taken to Mater Dei Hospital, however, the health authorities ruled that they could continue receiving the necessary treatment at Mount Carmel.

49 new coronavirus cases were registered on Wednesday.
