38 more people test positive for coronavirus; 34 recover

38 new coronavirus cases were reported by the health authorities on Tuesday.

In the last 24 hours, a total of 2,409 swab tests were carried out.

The total number of active cases stands at 678 after 34 individuals made a recovery.

The cases reported on Tuesday are still being investigated by the health authorities.

From the cases announced on Monday 8 were family members of previously known cases, 1 case was a direct contact, 15 were from St Joseph home cluster, 2 were work colleagues of previously known cases, 2 from social gatherings and 3 were related to the entertainment industry.

The official number excludes asylum seekers who are currently in detention and have also tested positive for coronavirus. Asylum seekers who test positive in Malta while in detention are not reported in the authorities’ official data.

Asylum seekers are automatically kept in quarantine after they disembark in Malta.
