A total of 38 reports of illegal dumping have been made since the Covid-19 pandemic arrived in Malta, Environment Minister Aaron Farrugia confirmed.
In reply to a parliamentary question by PN MP Kevin Cutajar, Farrugia said that the figures cited included all types of waste, including domestic waste. He said that all reports have been investigated and that a number of fines have been issued as a result.
The largest number of illegal dumping incidents occurred in Rabat, with 10 reports received by the Environment and Resources Authority since the beginning of March. These would include the dumping of a large amount of construction waste in Mtaħleb last month.
Three incidents were reported in Mellieħa and Qormi, two incidents in Birżebbuġa and Naxxar, and a single incident was reported in 18 other localities, including three in Gozo.
