3,532 Indian and Nepali citizens applied for a work permit in 2019

In 2019, a total of 2,130 Indian citizens and 1,402 Nepali citizens applied for a residency and work permit.

The number of new work permits issued to citizens hailing from India and Nepal was tabled in Parliament by Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri who was replying to a parliamentary question by Ivan Bartolo.

Only 7 Nepali individuals applied for a work permit between 2013 and 2015 compared to 271 Indian nationals for the same period.

In 2016, 230 Indians applied for a permit compared to 19 Nepali individuals. While 619 and 1776 new residency permits were approved in the years 2017 and 2018 respectively for Indian citizens. The amount of Nepali citizens applying for the first time for a work permit for the same years was lower 242 new applications were approved in 2017 while 1,135 applications were approved in 2018.
