The number of registered unemployed fell by 287 during September, with 3,385 people registering for work last month.
National Statistics Office figures show that the number remains considerably higher – by 1,717 – than that recorded in September 2019.
The registered unemployed in September comprised 2,134 men and 1,251 women. 179 were teenagers, 325 were aged 20-24, 372 aged 25-29, 1,132 aged between 30 and 44 and the remaining 1,377 aged 45 and over.
As one might expect given the spike in unemployment brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, the vast majority have been registering for work for less than a year. 1,534 people had been registering for work for less than 21 weeks, a further 1,246 have been on the register for 21-52 weeks while 605 have been registering for work for over a year.
