32 cases of Covid-19 reported

Thirty-two new cases of Covid-19 have been reported by the health authorities on Sunday, while 30 patients are deemed to have made a recovery.

The number of active cases has thus increased to 664.

A total of 2,196 swab tests were carried out over 24 hours, bringing the total number of tests carried out in Malta since the beginning of the pandemic up to 231,448.

There have been a total of 2,731 cases of Covid-19 in Malta so far, with 2,047 recoveries reported.

The pandemic has claimed 20 lives, including three only yesterday.

Most of yesterday’s cases sporadic

While today’s cases are being investigated, the health authorities revealed that 30 of the 65 cases reported yesterday were conclusively traced.

The remaining 35 – 54% of the total – are thus being treated as sporadic.

Nineteen of the cases reported yesterday were family members of previously known cases, while 2 were direct contacts and 4 were work colleagues.

Another five were traced to known clusters in care homes – 1 at the St Joseph Home in Fgura, and 4 at Casa Antonia in Balzan.
