Two Bulgarian women aged 23 and 27, were remanded in custody after they were charged with pick-pocketing. The cases occurred recently in Sliema.

Police Inspector Mark Mercieca said that the police received a call to report the theft of a handbag from a shop in Sliema. One of the women was found through the CCTV footage in this case.

The defence argued that given both women are expecting a baby, the two should be given any medical assistance they may require in Corradino Correctional Facility.

Magistrate Joe Mifsud said that Malta should send a clear message to the criminal organisations that are sending people to Malta to pickpocket.
