Two men were arrested on Wednesday after they were found in possession of more than 1.6kg of drugs with a street value of around €90,000.
In a statement on Thursday, the police said that the two men – a 36-year-old of Luqa and a 31-year-old of Birzebbuga – were arrested by the Drug Squad with the assistance of the Rapid Intervention Unit.
The police found two blocks of cocaine weighing around 1.3kg following a search in their car. The police also found 130g of cocaine and 100g of cannabis grass and 95g of cannabis resin during a search at a residence in Luqa.
One of the men is expected to be arraigned in court under arrest on Friday where he will be charged with drug trafficking and aggravated possession.
The police are investigating the case.
