Man, 19, dies in Mġarr head-on collision

A 19-year-old driver died on Friday night in a head-on collision between two cars in Mġarr while two others were hospitalized.

The crash happened around 11.15pm on Triq Sir Temi Zammit, the police said in a statement.

Officers from the Mosta District Police Station and the Rapid Intervention Unit were first to be called on site.

The victim was heading towards Mosta, where he lived, and had an 18-year-old man in the passenger seat when he collided with the pickup truck being driven in the opposite direction by a 35-year-old man from Mġarr.

The Civil Protection Department officials were also on site to extract the teenagers from the car.

The 19-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering fatal injuries while the passenger in the same car, an 18-year-old, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital for treatment.

The other driver also needed medical treatment. His condition is not yet known.

Magistrate Marseann Farrugia is leading an inquiry into the case.

Mosta District Police are leading a police investigation.
