18 people fined €100 each for gathering in public; 10 people breach quarantine

18 individuals have been fined €100 each during the Police patrols around the island in the last 24 hours.

Public gatherings of more than three individuals who do not reside at the same residence or at not family members residing at the same house have been banned.

Ten people were caught breaching quarantine rules during 440 inspections carried out by the Police and the Health Authorities. The individuals were fined €3,000 each.

Since this legal notice came into force, 65 fines were issued. The health authorities have reiterated their call urging the public to cooperate with the directives.

Seven new coronavirus cases were reported overnight, all but one were contracted locally, Superintendent of Public Health Professor Charmaine Gauci said on Thursday.

The total number of cases now went up to 195.
