Eighteen individuals have been fined early Sunday morning after they held a party in Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq ignoring social distancing regulations recently enacted to curb the spread of coroanvirus among the community. Five individuals were arrested for drug possession.
The police said that it was informed about loud music coming from White Rocks area where various cars were parked, at around 3.30am on Sunday.
Officers from St Julian’s Police Station went on site and found that 18 people were attending a party, including a DJ and an organizer.
The police found a 25-year-old man carrying a bag containing ecstasy pills and a blade, while a 36-year-old woman was found to be in possession of cannabis.
Suspecting that there were more drugs in the area, the Police called for backup from the K9 unit and a detailed search was carried out. The police found cannabis, weed, and cocaine.
All those present at the party were taken to St Julian’s Police Stations and the police found cannabis on three other men aged 26, 28 and 31.
The persons who were found in possession of drugs were held under arrest while the others are set to be charged for breaching social distancing laws.
Magistrate Audrey Demicoli is leading the inquiry.
The police are investigating the case.
