1,789 hours of paid work leave was donated by the staff employed in the public administration of the Office of the President. The hours were accumulated by the employees and are to be used by employees who need leave in serious cases concerning health problems or long leave.

President George Vella praised and thanked them for this show of solidarity among employees. He encouraged more workers to follow suit and donate their paid leave from their annual leave to those in need. The staff at the President’s Office are also involved in the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation throughout the year which happens outside office hours. They also donate money towards the foundation.

The Presidency’s secretary Rosette Spiteri Cachia showed her gratitude at the hours donated. She explained that many employees donated one or more hours from the hours leftover from last year’s annual leave.
