Minister for Health Chris Fearne reported 134 cases of theft within his Ministry.
Parliamentary Member Claudette Buttigieg asked 6 ministers to detail the amount of theft reports within their ministries registered with the Police. She asked for the amount of reports between the years of 2017 and 2019.
Fearne said that there were 134 thefts between 2017 and 2019.
Minister for Tourism Julia Farrugia Portelli said that there were 6 reports in 2017, 2 reports in 2018 and 17 reports in 2019. She explained that most cases concerned the Cleansing Department, with dustbins and wheeliebins being stolen.
Minister for Internal Affairs Byron Camilleri said that there were 6 reports in 2017, 1 in 2018 and another in 2019. Aaron Farrugia, Minister for the Environment, said that there was a report within the Planning Authority in 2017, and 4 within Wasteserv in 2019.
There was only one case of theft within the Ministry for Justice, according to Minister Edward Zammit Lewis. This occurred in 2018.
Finance Minister Edward Scicluna said that there were no reports within his ministry and departments.
Cases of theft within personal residences
The Police said that the most popular time for reports regarding theft from personal residences is the afternoon. The residence often do not have a security system in place. A spokesperson for the Police told Newsbook.com.mt that there were 923 reports of theft from 1st August 2018 till 31st August 2019. The largest amount of reports (429) were made in the afternoon up till 8pm. The second largest amount (304) were made between 6.01am and 12pm, while the least amount (190) were made in the evening after 8pm up till 6am.
