Seventeen individuals have been convicted of rape charges over the past three years, Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri told the House of Representatives.
In his reply to a parliamentary question by Opposition MP Mario Galea, Camilleri listed the number of individuals convicted and the sentence they received.
Until the 28th April, five people had been convicted and are serving three to five years in prison. Seven individuals are serving five-to-ten years in prison and a person was handed down a jail term of 10 to 20 years. Two individuals were jailed for more than 20 years.
A protection order was issued in favour of a person, while another person was at Mount Carmel Hospital.
