129 new cases detected; death toll at 206

Malta has registered 129 new cases following 2,071 swab test over the past 24 hours the health authorities announced on Saturday afternoon.

1,485 cases remain active following three recoveries.

Three new fatalities have been added to the daily tally, bringing the total number of victims to 206. Details are yet to be announced.

The health authorities have traced 24 cases from the 50 infections reported on Friday. These have been traced to:

  • 15 family members of individuals who tested positive;
  • 4 work colleagues of individuals who tested positive;
  • 2 direct contacts of individuals who tested positive;
  • 3 cases were from a social gathering.

26 infections remain unaccounted for.

On Saturday morning the first 10,000 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine arrived in Malta. The mass vaccination programme is set to begin on Sunday.
