108 new cases of Covid-19 reported

The health authorities have identified 108 new cases of Covid-19 overnight, while 46 patients have made a recovery.

Consequently, the total number of known active cases in Malta has gone up to 1,553.

The latest daily bulletin also confirms two more deaths from Covid-19, though the health authorities are yet to provide further details.

The new cases were identified through 2,788 swab tests: 491,306 such tests have been carried out in Malta since the beginning of the pandemic.

There have been 11,910 known cases of Covid-19 in Malta, with 10,161 total recoveries reported. However, the pandemic has claimed 196 lives in Malta to date.

45 of yesterday’s 88 cases traced

As is custom, the bulletin includes an update on the contact tracing efforts related to the cases reported on the previous day: 88 had been reported on Monday.

Of these, just over half – 45 – were traced, with the remaining 43 continuing to be treated as sporadic.

21 cases were reported among family members of previously-known cases, while 10 were colleagues and 9 were direct contacts of known Covid-19 patients.

Another 5 cases  were linked to social gatherings attended by known positive cases.
