A group of asylum seekers were rescued on Tuesday morning by the Armed Forces of Malta. 106 individuals were brought to the AFM Naval Base at Floriana on board patrol boat P52.

A spokesperson for the AFM confirmed that the boat carrying the 106 individuals was in distress, with the AFM assisting them.

Newsbook.com.mt asked whether the AFM had any more cases opened in the Maltese search and rescue region, however, the spokesperson said that she was not informed that this was the case.

In a tweet, migrant hotline Alarm Phone said that it was alerted by a boat in distress which was drifting in Maltese search and rescue region. The NGO claimed that despite having informed the authorities about the case, they received no further updates about the case. Further, Alarm Phone lost contact with the boat.
