106 new COVID-19 cases; Malta records highest number of daily cases

106 new coronavirus cases were registered overnight after 2,470 swab tests were carried out in the last 24 hours, the health authorities announced on Wednesday.

This is the highest number of cases registered in 24 hours since the start of the pandemic.

The total number of active cases stands at 591 and 22 more patients made a recovery.

The Ministry for Health explained that from yesterday’s cases 10 were family members of previously known cases, 5 were work colleagues, 2 were direct contacts of positive cases, 3 from St Joseph Home cluster and 15 from Casa Antonia home. The rest, 14, were sporadic cases.

Today’s cases include two Gozo residents, according to Xagħra mayor Christian Zammit, who quoted official sources which he spoke to after receiving numerous queries on the matter. None lived in his home town, he specified.
