106 new cases of Covid-19

The health authorities have reported 106 new cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday, a day after reporting a record 218 new cases.

As 108 patients have since recovered, the total number of active cases now stands at 1,937.

The new cases were identified through 2,816 swab tests: 346,106 such tests have been carried out in Malta since the start of the pandemic.

There have been 6,506 known cases of Covid-19 in Malta to date, with 4,505 since making a recovery. The pandemic has, however, claimed 64 lives to date.

Just 38 of yesterday’s 218 traced

A staggering 180 cases among the 218 reported yesterday are still being treated as sporadic, with the contact tracing team managing to link only a small minority to previously-known cases.

23 cases were family members of previously-known cases, while a further 10 were colleagues and 2 were other direct contacts.

Two cases were traced to social gatherings attended by previously-known cases, while a further case was imported.
