105 persons have died due to chronic asthma in the first four months fo 2019. There are also 26,534 persons that are registered as suffering from asthma and are in possession of a Schedule V, what in Maltese is referred to as kartuna s-safra, due to it being orginally made of a yellow coloured soft card.

Between the 2017 and 2018 there was an increase of 1,675 persons that applied for a Schedule V due to their asthma problems.

These statistics were published by minister for Health Chris Fearne who was answering a parliamentary question made by Partit Demokratiku MP Godfrey Farrugia.

A while ago, during the programme Psy Discuss which is led by Drs. Joe and Anna Cassar, on RTK 103FM, Professor Steven Montfort explained that asthma is a condition that is greatly effected by emotion.

Dr Joe Cassar, who is a psychiatrist, also added that it is quite usual that people start off with a panic attack, then they start experiencing shortness of breath and at this point they feel that they had lost absolute control.
