There are also 26,534 persons that are registered as suffering from asthma and are in possession of a Schedule V, what in Maltese is referred to as kartuna s-safra, due to it being orginally made of a yellow coloured soft card.
Between the 2017 and 2018 there was an increase of 1,675 persons that applied for a Schedule V due to their asthma problems.
These statistics were published by minister for Health Chris Fearne who was answering a parliamentary question made by Partit Demokratiku MP Godfrey Farrugia.
A while ago, during the programme Psy Discuss which is led by Drs. Joe and Anna Cassar, on RTK 103FM, Professor Steven Montfort explained that asthma is a condition that is greatly effected by emotion.
Dr Joe Cassar, who is a psychiatrist, also added that it is quite usual that people start off with a panic attack, then they start experiencing shortness of breath and at this point they feel that they had lost absolute control.
