Almost half of those who died in work related accidents between 2014 and 2018 were Maltese, new figures on fatalities at work show.
Maltese people made up 10 of the total 21 people (Maltese and Non-Maltese) recorded to have died on the job between the 4 year period.
The number of Maltese dying at work peaked in 2015 with 5 recorded cases.
These figures come from new figures published by the National Statistics Office on the number of fatal accidents which happened at work.
The majority of those who died were males between ages of 25 and 34 years old. More than half of these were fatal accidents which took place on construction sites. Head injuries made up the largest number associated with fatal accidents on construction sites.
The majority of recorded fatalities were among small companies of between 1 and 9 employees. Conversely, there was only 1 fatality recorded in large companies of 250 people and more. This was recorded in 2015.
