Prime Minister Joseph Muscat will be nominating either Minister for European Affairs and Equality Helena Dalli or Finance Minister Edward Scicluna for EU Commissioner. This is what has been reported by the Malta Independent on Sunday.

According to the newspaper, the Prime Minister was undecided on which one of the two will get the official nomination from his end. However, the the German Defence Minister, Ursula von der Leyen who is currently awaiting to be appointed President of the EU Commission had solved his dilemma as she had asked for every EU state to nominate two candidates,  a male and a female.

The Malta Independent on Sunday also reported that Edward Scicluna is very interested to be appointed EU Commissioner as he is likely not to seek another term in the Maltese Parliament. The same newspaper added that Helena Dalli is interested from her end and is expecting Joseph Muscat to back her nomination as he had backed Edward Scicluna’s run during the election for Partit Laburista Deputy Leader.

Currently, Karmenu Vella is EU Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.
