Balluta Bay has been officially reopened to the public following sand renourishment program.
This was the second bay to be reopened, following works on St George Bay in Birżebbuġa, while there are ongoing works on two others, l-Għar l-Aħmar in Marsaxlokk and of Fajtata in Marsascala.
Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi stated that the work taking place on this bay was not funded by his Ministry. An agreement had been reached that a hotel in the vicinity would be financing this bay while keeping it fully accessible to the public without the exception of concessions or rental of deckchairs.
Mizzi maintained that the process used for the sand renourishment program of this bay was of benefit to the environment, created less noise pollution and was carried out in a timelier manner.
He further said that the Maltese government is determined to improve the tourism product and to make more bays accessible in summer. This program is being carried out by the Malta Tourism Authority and the Foundation for the Tourism Zone Development.
